Ardell Hegstad, 92, Orange City Obituaries

She was previously a member of the American Reformed Church in Hull, where she had been active in the church’s choir, including serving as the director. She also used her musical gifts as a member of the Sioux County Women’s Chorus; as well as singing with her sisters and playing the piano and organ. Betty liked to keep a neat home, often decorating with flower arrangements that she made. She also enjoyed going shopping, and was always well dressed and stylish, even as her health declined. ORANGE CITY—Elizabeth Doppenberg, 93, Orange City, died Friday, Nov. 11, 2022, at Crown Pointe Estates in Sioux Center.

He grew up in Hull, where he attended the Hull Christian School and Western Christian High School. After graduation, he went on to earn his degree in electrical Engineering from the Northwest Iowa Technical College in Sheldon. He used those gifts and talents when he joined his dad and brothers at Art’s Electric in Hull as a part-owner and Master Electrician.

Ardie had the opportunity of advancing her career at the bank but turned it down to take care of their growing family. Spending time with his family was important to Ken, and he regularly attended his grandchildren’s various activities. He enjoyed reading, working on handyman projects, and restoring old tractors, which he drove in the annual Orange City Tulip Festival parades.

A private family funeral service will be held Saturday, Nov. 19, at Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. Burial will be at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Low 24F. As their kids grew older, Ardie began working at Ramaker Library of Northwestern College. She enjoyed working with the staff and students of the library for nineteen years before retiring in 1992. Jay Leusink; three brothers, Vernon Riphagen, Merlin Riphagen, and Kenneth Riphagen in infancy; three sisters, Baulah Harms, Arloa Vande Brake, and Fay Masters; and two sisters-in-law, Esther Johnson and Leona Van Maasdam. Mrs. De Jager was a lifelong member of the Maurice Reformed Church, where in earlier years she participated in the Women’s Guild and sang in the church choir.

Ardell “Ardie” Thelma was born on Oct. 8, 1930, to Theodore and Agnes Pederson at the family farm near Finley, North Dakota. She was raised on the farm and went to country school until her family moved to Portland, North Dakota. Ardie graduated from Portland High School in 1948. She attended one quarter of college at Mayville State College in Mayville, North Dakota, at which point she was offered a bookkeeping job at a local business that she accepted.

During their retirement years, Arnold and Betty enjoyed traveling with their camper, often to fairs in the area. Arnold passed away on Oct. 20, 2000, in Sioux Falls, after more than 50 years of marriage. In 2015, Betty moved to the Pioneer Memorial Home in Orange City, and in January of 2021, she became a resident of the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City. Loren was diagnosed with cancer on Oct. 14, 2021, and he fought his battle with our Lord Jesus by his side.
